2012 - The Year of the Doberman

2012 marks the centennial of the first Doberman registrations with the Canadian Kennel Club – a black and tan dog and a blue, gray and tan bitch. Dogs in Canada graciously sent us a scanned copy of the registration, shown below for fellow history buffs:

The similarities between dragon personalities and those of our splendid Dobermans struck us immediately: descriptions such as “magnificent, attractive, strong … full of vitality, [an] imperial symbol of power, natural charisma, impressive presence,” demanding notice, an “active mind” and keen observer of the world ... “self-confident ... in knowing how to create a necessary impression, larger than life, capable of great achievement, enjoy[ing] being the centre of attention.”

We were particularly taken by the following characteristic – “... brave. When others leave the field of battle, the dragon steps forward to solve the problem with authority and dignity, devoted, open hearted, vibrant, positive attitude, supports friends unequivocally in times of need…” (

With this description, our committee realized that 2012 should become the Year of the Doberman and our brand would link the Doberman with the Dragon.

Help us celebrate 2012 as "The Year of the Doberman." Let’s work together to make 2012 an unforgettable start to the next century of Dobermans in Canada.
